THE GETTYSBURG FESTIVAL EXPANDS TO INCLUDE HISTORICAL ART
Long-Time "History Meets the Arts Festival" Scheduled Under June 2010 Gettysburg Festival Umbrella
GETTYSBURG, PA (December 4, 2009)--The Gettysburg Festival announced a partnership with the “History Meets the Arts Festival,” an annual event known for its showcasing of the nation’s prominent historical artists. The History Meets the Arts Festival, held in mid-April for the past 12 years, will take place in conjunction with the Gettysburg Festival, a multi-faceted cultural arts festival, June 18-27, 2010.
“The appeal of History Meets the Arts has always been its ability to present the largest gathering of historical artists in the country, in up-close and personal settings,” explains Gettysburg Festival Executive Director Alice Estrada. “The Festival welcomes History Meets the Arts to its 2010 lineup and preserves its basic model, which gives attendees the rare opportunity to interact with dozens of artists. Additionally, discussions involving both festivals have produced exciting plans that will give History Meets the Arts new and added dimensions, including a broadening of the artistic vision to welcome additional styles of art.”
A culinary event will serve as a kickoff for History Meets the Arts within the Gettysburg Festival, June 18. The Festival’s Artistic Director for Culinary Arts and former White House Chef Walter Scheib is designing an Edible Art Tour within Gettysburg’s participating downtown galleries. The art walk provides the opportunity to meet and mingle with noted artists, while highlighting both historical and culinary masterpieces at every stop.
The Gettysburg Festival presents History Meets the Arts activities, demonstrations, artist receptions and exhibitions focused on the first weekend of the Festival, June 18 – 20, within about a dozen downtown galleries. Plans also call for one comprehensive History Meets the Arts exhibit for the entire length of the 10-day Gettysburg Festival.

The Gettysburg Festival is an annual 10-day cultural arts festival held in mid-to-late June. The 2009 Festival offered more than 100 events, the majority of which were free and open to the public, drawing more than 20,000 attendees from at least 22 states. Taking place throughout historic downtown Gettysburg, the Gettysburg Festival will offer 100+ events, more than half of which are free, including: Music (Brass, Jazz, Classical), Culinary Events, Theater, Visual Arts and Children’s Events. Performers include a mix of world-class artists as well as innovative emerging artists.
