The Benfield Brass Band is a traditional British style brass band formed in 1998 for the express purpose of participating at the annual Gettysburg Brass Band Festival. The 2010 Festival marks the 13th year that The Benfield Brass Band has performed in Gettysburg.
Adhering to its British style, the band is composed of brass and percussion instruments. The instrumentation consists of cornets, flugelhorn, tenor horns, baritones, euphoniums, trombones and basses, as well as percussion. The Benfield Brass also regularly performs concerts in the Anne Arundel County, Maryland area. Ray Ascione, the conductor for the band, is a retired Navy Commander who, in his 35 years of active naval service, served as Leader of the U.S. Naval Academy Band, Assistant Leader of the Navy Band in Washington, D.C, among other assignments.
