The 8th Georgia Regiment Band
Saturday, June 19, 2010
The "new" 8th Georgia Regiment Band, a recreation of the Band of the 8th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry who served from 1861 to 1865, was founded in 1986 in Rome, GA. Comprised of fourteen accomplished volunteer musicians, the band combines original band scores and authentically styled arrangements with original mid-nineteenth century instruments to provide the band's authentic and interesting programs. Performing songs and music from both sides of the war, the band aims to create "a museum of 19th century American emotions."
The 8th Regiment Band performs at a wide variety of venues and events, including various military re-enactments, memorial services, dedications, historic television movies and a number of featured formal shows and concerts. These featured shows have included annual performances at The Great American Brass Band Festival in Danville, Kentucky, The Good Morning America Show, a concert for the United States Vice President Cheney, and The National 135th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
