The Pirates of Penzance
New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players - New York, NY
Sunday, June 20, 2010
More than 100 years before there was Capt. Jack Sparrow, there was The Pirates of Penzance – one of the most beloved of Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic operas. The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, America’s pre-eminent professional repertory Gilbert & Sullivan company, will bring their uniquely developed personality to this classic favorite.
Young pirate Frederic has just turned 21 and is released from his obligation as an apprentice pirate to the flamboyant Pirate King. He quickly falls in love with the fair maiden, Mabel, only to learn that his birthday is on February 29 – Leap Year – and he must return to his duty as a pirate for another 60 years!
See how Frederic resolves his problem in classic Gilbert & Sullivan style!
Presented by The Gettysburg Festival in collaboration with the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival
