The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Northwest Louisiana - Shreveport, LA
Saturday, June 26, 2010
Showing the softer side of W. S. Gilbert, Sweethearts is a play about two people who find it difficult to declare their love for one another, but find it almost after a lifetime. Written in 1874, it was one of Gilbert’s most popular non-musical plays.
Performed by The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Northwest Louisiana, the group was formed in 1971 to promote and perpetuate the works of Gilbert & Sullivan in the ArkLaTex region. It has performed most of the Savoy operas.
Henry Spreadbrow calls on young Jenny Northcott whom he has been in love with for many years. Knowing he must leave for India, Henry and Jenny continue to flirt, but neither finds the courage to speak of their love for one another.
