The Carp: Rose Valley Chorus & Orchestra – Media, PA
The relentless pursuit of an elusive carp saves two forlorn lovers from ending it all by throwing themselves in a river in this operetta first performed in 1886 as a companion piece to Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado.
While the original score by Alfred Cellier was lost, The Carp has been re-written by Quade Winter, composer-in-residence at the Ohio Light Opera Co. It will be performed by the Rose Valley Chorus and Orchestra. Formed in 1907, the group presents professional quality theatrical productions, including Gilbert & Sullivan.
Der Yiddisher Mikado: Gilbert & Sullivan Yiddish Light Opera Co. – New York
Oy! In the Der Yiddisher Mikado, the town of Titipu will never be the same as Gilbert & Sullivan’s classic gets a unique interpretation by the Gilbert & Sullivan Yiddish Light Opera Co. This group has been seen throughout the U.S., Canada and London performing in mostly Yiddish with English dialog.
A poor, wandering minstrel, Yanki-Poo, arrives in Titipu looking for his beloved Tsippe- Tsviele only to find that she is betrothed to Khay-Shpay, the Lord High Executioner. Soon, the Mikado’s daughter-in-law elect, Khana Pesl, arrives to claim her husband, the disguised Yanki-Poo, who is actually son of the Emperor of Japan. Mayhem and mistaken identities ensue and everyone is paired off with the one they love – or deserve.
See if Schmeer Meer and Mish Mosh can save heads from rolling in this hilarious adaptation.
Presented by The Gettysburg Festival in collaboration with the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival
