The Mikado
Derby Gilbert & Sullivan Company - United Kingdom
Saturday, June 26, 2010
Celebrate with us the 125th anniversary of the premiere of The Mikado. It’s Gilbert & Sullivan at their best! Performed by the Derby Gilbert & Sullivan Company from the United Kingdom, they are perennial winners at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Buxton, UK.
A poor, wandering minstrel, Nanki-Poo, arrives in Titipu looking for his beloved Yum-Yum only to find that she is betrothed to Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner. Soon, the Mikado’s daughter-in-law elect, Katisha, arrives to claim her husband, the disguised Nanki-Poo, who is actually son of the Emperor of Japan. Mayhem and mistaken identities ensue and everyone is paired off with the one they love – or deserve.
See who comes close to losing their heads!
