Friday, June 18, 2010
Be part of a live audience for the popular NPR program From the Top with Christopher O’Riley, kicking off the 2010 Gettysburg Festival at Gettysburg’s Majestic Theater. For the past decade, From the Top has been the preeminent showcase for young musicians in America. NBC’s Today Show exclaims: “young musicians that will knock your socks off.” From the Top is hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O’Riley, who mixes students’ high-caliber performances with interviews, sketches and games, revealing the heart and soul behind these extraordinary young musicians. This program will be taped live for later broadcast on NPR stations nationwide, including WITF, and will feature outstanding students from Central PA. Now in its tenth year on air, From the Top has featured prominent guest artists including Yo Yo Ma, Hilary Hahn, Bobby McFerrin, Midori, Béla Fleck and more. Alumni of From the Top are now popping up in the country’s top orchestras and emerging with solo careers. From the Top also encourages its young performers to share their music with new audiences and give back to their communities. The New York Times says: “From the Top gives young musicians the stage but lets them act their age. It’s serious music but classically kids.” And the Los Angeles Times exclaims, “Tune in to From the Top and give yourself a dose of music and hope.”
