Swingin' Through the Great American Songbook with John Pizzarelli
Friday, June 25, 2010
World-renowned jazz guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli, described as “hip with a wink” (Town & Country) has established himself as one of the prime interpreters of the Great American Songbook, reinventing hits by Nat “King” Cole, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra and more. Pizzarelli started playing guitar at the age of six, following in the footsteps of his father, guitar legend Bucky Pizzarelli. His February 2010 release Rockin’ in Rhythm celebrates the timeless music of Duke Ellington, while Pizzarelli’s Grammy-Award nominated 2008 recording With a Song in My Heart celebrated the music of legendary composer Richard Rodgers. The New York Times praised his 2006 release Dear Mr. Sinatra for “exploding with enthusiasm and excitement.” And the Boston Globe credits him with “reinvigorating the Great American Songbook and re-popularizing jazz.”
