The South Hills Junior Orchestra is a non-profit youth symphony orchestra located in metropolitan Pittsburgh. The group was founded in 1983 to provide an orchestral playing experience for students age eight through high school with some openings for adults on selected instruments.
Every June, the Orchestra takes an annual trip to a performance location outside of the Pittsburgh area. The Gettysburg Festival is pleased to host the Orchestra’s 2010 appearance. Past venues have included the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C; Toronto City Hall, Toronto, Canada; Fanueil Hall, Boston, Massachusetts; Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia and many other prestigious destinations.
The orchestra is under the direction of Paul K. Fox, Orchestra and String Teacher, Musical Producer and Performing Arts Curriculum Leader, Upper St. Clair High School; Donna Fox, String Specialist, Peters Township High School; and William Critser, Composer and Woodwind Teacher, Mt. Lebanon.
Alumni of South Hills Junior Orchestra have gone on to become valuable participants of college and amateur orchestras. Several have cultivated promising careers in music and music education.
