Welcome to “The Gettysburg Fringe Festival,” the community complement to “The Gettysburg Festival” during the 10-day Festival timeframe, June 18th - 27th, 2010.

“The Gettysburg Fringe Festival” showcases a comprehensive collection of community events taking place within Adams County’s thriving arts community. Just as “fringe” is a decorative finishing touch, “The Gettysburg Fringe Festival” enhances “The Gettysburg Festival.” Enjoy all that the greater Gettysburg community has to offer!

What is “Fringe?” It all started in 1947, in Edinburgh, Scotland, as an alternative festival that played concurrently with the Edinburgh International Festival. In 1948 a local journalist gave it the name “fringe,” around the fringe of official Festival drama, and there seems to be more private (community) enterprise than ever before. Fringe Festivals can now be found all over the world, including right here at the Gettysburg Festival.
