With its roots in Vaudeville where singers and novelty acts peppered the theaters across the nation, The American Theater by the early part of the 20th Century quickly became a legitimate genre for writers of plays and composers of what is now classically referred to as American Musical Theater. The movement yielded such playwrights as Tennessee Williams, Harold Pinter, Edward Albee, George S. Kaufman, Eugene O’Neal, Thorton Wilder and August Wilson and composers as Irving Berlin, Leonard Bernstein, George and Ira Gershwin, John Kander and Fred Ebb, Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein, Richard Rodgers, Stephen Schwartz and Stephen Sondheim. Today’s Cabaret is loosely based on the earlier roots of vaudeville where a performer, usually solo, performs an evening of songs woven with a story, sometimes personal, sometimes common, but always entertaining!

The Gettysburg Festival~Celebrating America during this inaugural season, proudly presents two theater works; a brand new production of Kander and Ebb’s Broadway review “And the World Goes Round,” and Kathrine Kressman Taylor’s WWII Story: “Address Unknown.”

Ricky Ritzel, Pittsburgh born and bred, has been a fixture on the New York City nightclub and cabaret scene for over twenty years. As President of MAC (Manhattan Cabaret Association), Ricky leads the way with four uniquely produced Cabaret Shows tailored just for The Gettysburg Festival.
